Tape-in Hair Extension Textures
(aka Skin Weft Hair Extensions)

There is a large variety of tape-in hair extension textures available, so whatever your texture preference, it should be easy enough for you to find it and add volume and length to your natural tresses.

You'll notice the title of this guide says "aka skin weft hair extensions" and that's because tape hair extensions are also known as skin weft extensions and if you're new to the world of tape extensions then why not check out the guide about the basics of this easy to use hair extension.

There are several types of skin weft extensions:

  • Those that come with adhesive tape at the top on one side

  • Those that come with adhesive tape at the top on both sides

  • Those that come without any adhesive tape at the top (the adhesive tape is attached separately).

  • Those that come with small micro rings attached so that stick tip extensions can be added.

The texture guide applies to all of these versions of tape hair extensions and if you're new to the world of skin weft hair then check out the overview guide and then bounce back here to learn about the different textures, lengths and colours available.

If you’re new to the world of hair extensions (yes, skin wefts (tape extensions) are forms of hair extension) you may not know what terms like Yaki (relaxed straight) or silky straight mean; thankfully we have that covered!

Whatever the texture your growth hair and whichever hair texture you'd like to wear, we have the perfect skin weft hair texture guide, so that you can choose the tape hair extension texture that's perfect for you.

Tape-in Hair Extension Textures (skin weft extensions)

Whatever the hair type, (human hair or synthetic fibres) have a look at the tape-in hair extension textures guide below and as always... Peruse The Perukes.

When it comes to textures for tape hair extensions, there are several basic texture patterns and some have variations (such as different size curl patterns or different types of waves). In addition to this there are what we like to call fancy textures - as they're not really run of the mill.

For now we'll focus on the basic tape-in hair extension textures used in human hair tape in extensions:

Silky Straight: suits straight growth hair.

Yaki Straight: suits very curly and Afro growth hair and resembles hair that has been chemically or heat straightened.

Kinky Straightsuits very curly or Afro growth hair that is blow dried straight.

Body Wave: suits all hair textures of growth hair.

Water Wave: suits all textures of growth hair.

Deep Wave: suits all textures of growth hair

Curly: suits all textures of growth hair.

Kinky Curly: also called loose Afro curl, suits very curly and Afro curly growth hair types.

Afro Curl: suits very curly and Afro growth hair types.

Anything outside of these textures can be source unless it's a standard texture provided by your retailer and as always larger curl patterns can be hard to maintain on human hair extensions.

So if you're determined to choose a unique texture, then check with the retailer before you buy your tape hair extensions that it's a tried and tested texture that will remain even after the tape in hair extensions have been washed (because although returning hair extensions can be a hassle, wearing skin weft extensions that have a distorted texture pattern is worse).

As always the Peruke Caveat applies:

This is a guide only, you can take the information on textures and use it, or you can leave the information and wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable and confident.

Your online retailer should be able to show you images of the tape-in hair extension textures or any kind of hair extension before you buy it.

This is especially important if the only images available are those of singers and actresses as the tape hair you receive may not match up to the hair textures in those images.

As we said before ultimately it's about having hair that you can wear with confidence.
