Kinky Straight Hair Weave Texture Guide

Kinky straight hair weave (sometimes called Afro kinky straight) has a texture that resembles types 3C (ultra curly) and 4A-C (Afro)  hair that has been blow dried straight.

The texture is technically straight as it doesn't have curls or large waves and whilst that is technically accurate, when you examine many versions of kinky straight hair you'll notice that there are definitely small... erm... gentle... kinks (don't believe us? Check the image below).

Now you'll notice that we said "many versions" and that's because this isn't a hard and fast rule - there are retailers that stock kinky straight hair where the kinks are more subtle - so as always, check listing description and images as not all retailers allow returns for hair extensions.

Who Can Wear Kinky Straight Hair Weave

The kinky straight weave hair texture works as a great match for those whose natural texture is type 3C or type 4A-C based on the Andre Walker definition of hair textures (and yes, we're aware that Andre Walker's original classification work on an A and B basis, but real world data shows that people have hair textures outside of his notional A and B categories).

This isn't to say that everyone with type 4 hair has to choose kinky straight, just that it's one of the authentic looking texture matches (along with light Yaki, and Yaki straight textures).

Lengths for Kinky Straight Hair Weave

Much like the majority of hair extensions, lengths for weave hair start at around eight inches and wind their way up to 28 inches.

Longer lengths are available but you to have be ready to be part of the search and find party - they can be found, just not always very easily.

When choosing the length of your weave hair, it's always a good idea to think about whether you will have it cut into a particular style once it's attached, that way if you're aiming for a jaw-length bob, you don't have to buy a 16 inch bundle.

If you're a smart as we know you are then you'll be aware that there are remy weave hair and non-remy weave hair and now a "tangle-free" non-remy (quotation marks as that the company's claim and not ours).

Colours for Kinky Straight Hair Weave

Everything. Yes, that's right; everything. Jet black, brown, auburn, honey blonde, platinum blonde, ombre,  greens, T-colours, blues, highlights, pastels, dip-dyes...you name it, you'll find it.

If the non-naturally occurring hair colours aren't your thing (we don't judge) and you're darker in complexion and want some tips as to which colours complement your complexion then why not check the hair colour and skin tone guide.

Sets (Bundles) For Kinky Straight Hair Weave

Kinky straight weave hair can come in sets (bundles) of multiple lengths (you can see the value of multiple length sets in the how to make a wig from weave hair guide).

Bundles are available as sets of two, three or four lengths (like 14 inch, 16 inch, 18 inch & 20 inch).

Caring For Kinky Straight Hair Weave

If you haven’t perused the Caring For Weave Hair Guide then you can use these five top tips to get you started.

1. Wash your kinky straight weave hair at least every couple of weeks (more if you use a lot of hair extension styling products) and use a shampoo for dry or damaged or coloured hair (if you're unsure whether your weave hair is coloured in any way then opt for a shampoo for coloured hair)

2. If the hair seems dull or fragile then use a leave-in conditioner or deep condition your weave hair every two weeks as this will help strengthen and repair the weave hair (and your growth hair).

3. It's always best to keep your weave hair (and your growth hair) moisturized, using a light moisturizer (that you can spray onto the hair) that's free from mineral oils.

4. If your kinky straight weave hair becomes dry at the ends or frizzy then apply hair oils to smooth weave hair, hair oils also nourish the hair. If you use oils when the hair is damp, they'll also help lock moisture in the hair to prevent them becoming dry again.

5. If you have glue-in weave hair then avoid getting any hair extension styling products anywhere near the glued tracks and use a dry shampoo. Hair extension styling products (and conditioners) can cause the glue to disintegrate and which could cause matting of your growth hair.

That's a run-through of kinky straight hair weave signed, sealed and delivered!
