French Lace Wigs

French lace is a strong material used around the edge of a hairpiece in combination with bleached knots to give and extremely undetectable look.

How are the knots hidden? By the wig manufacturers bleaching them.

The knots are not hidden by lace, but using lighter knots creates the illusion of growing hair.

French lace is stronger than Swiss lace and if cared for properly should last at least a year.

Swiss Lace Front Wigs

Swiss Lace is more fragile than French lace but strong enough for daily use if if handled carefully.

The appeal of Swiss lace is that it's extremely undetectable and you don't need to worry about the colour of the lace as it's transparent.

Swiss lace is suitable for every skin tone.

But not to be left behind, with baby hairs and different shades of lace, French lace wigs can be just as undetectable as Swiss lace, so don't be put off!

If you're new to lace wigs and are unsure about which lace to use then Swiss lace with ear to ear stretch is a great place to start. This is because you can handle the wig at the stretch material at the ear and not worry about handling it as it's designed to be durable.

Anything Else to Consider…?

Ear to ear stretch means that the cap has stretch material between the ears means that the wig can be adjusted, a bit like a pair of socks, they look a bit smaller in the pack but they stretch around your feet and fit comfortably.

Ear to ear stretch also means that you can pull the wig up into a ponytail – how’s that for versatility?! Stretch caps are more durable.

French lace perukes with thin skin have an extremely thin, clear coat of polyurethane over a clear silk base at the very back of the wig that enables easy fitting and removal. This means that you can fit the wig on the back of the head without the application of glue, good news for those with sensitive skin! This type of lace cap wig is available as a custom made wig and not part of the every day stock.

You will also find lace front only wigs, or with the stretch from the top of the head to the nape of the neck as well as lace wigs without any stretch - you'll need to make sure your measurements are completely accurate for these wigs.

Whatever fitting you choose, the top tip for beginners is to start with ear to ear stretch as the durability is greater and gives you a chance to become adept at fitting your wig on a weekly basis until you can do it with your eyes closed!
