What's The Best Lace Wig Length For
Oblong Faces? (and other lace wig length questions)

"What's the best lace wig hairstyle, length or texture for people with oblong shaped faces?"

A lot of people ask a question that starts with "what's the best lace wig for..." and ends with all sorts of things like: round shaped faces; small heads; square shaped faces; women in their 20s; heart shaped faces; runners; growing hair; oval shaped faces and the list goes on. It seemed that the best way to answer these "face shape" based questions was to present them as contenders for the (completely fictional) Wigs By Face Shape award; so let's get on to the category for...

The Best Lace Wig for Oblong Faces...and the nominees are:

Lengths
Hair that falls below the shoulder can lengthen the appearance of oblong faces or rectangular faces - especially if the hair is completely straight; to mitigate this, layers and texture (waves or curls) will appear to add width to the face and make the overall length seem lighter (in the gravity-defying sense).

A shoulder length lace wig is about 14 inches (touching the shoulder) to 16 inches (just past the shoulder).

Height at the crown will have a tendency to make oblong and rectangular faces appear longer.

Curly Hair
Anything goes: afro curls, corkscrew curls, drop curls and kinky curls are yours for the taking. Where your curls short (not above the ear) mid-length (which makes oblong faces look slightly shorter) or longer.
Choose spiral curl, kinky curl or afro curl textured lace wigs.

Wavy Hair
Whether you choose shorter wavy bobs, shoulder length waves (which makes oblong and rectangular shaped faces look slightly shorter with softer jawlines), or long waves, your face will be complemented by the texture of the waves.
The favourite lace wig wavy textures are body wave, water wave and deep wave textures.

Layered Hair
Layering the hair with loose layers that can start at jawline level are great, as they add width to oblong and rectangular faces and if you have a fringe (bangs) it can further shorten the appearance of longer shaped faces.
The best lace wig textures for this are straight textures (yaki and kinky straight included) as well as wavy textures including body wave, water wave and deep wave.

Long Bobs, Sloping Bobs and Asymmetrical Bobs
Long bobs, sloping bobs and asymmetrical bobs complement oblong shaped faces whilst providing a solid styled cut.

If the hair is wavy, then it gives the appearance of the face being wider and therefore shorter. Layered wavy bobs work well as do choppy bobs which soften the jawline.
The lace wig textures that are best for these looks are straight textures (yaki and kinky straight included) as well as the wavy textures like body wave, water wave and deep wave.

Side, Curved and Angled Fringes (bangs)
All fringes work well with oblong shaped faces as they essentially shorten the face.

If you don't want to cut an actual fringe into your lace wig then you can make a side parting and taper or lightly layer the hair that crosses your face to give the appearance of a structured side fringe.

If you prefer a straight cut fringe then feathering (vertical cur instead of a horizontal cut) will add a softness to the face especially if there are light wispy layers (ending at the temples).

If you don't want to incorporate layers, then angling fringes down at the sides is another way to achieve this look - the fringe is angled down at the sides (of each eye) by about 2cm.

Curved fringes (bangs) as these can make rectangular and oblong faces seem rounder (and therefore shorter).

Sweeping fringes are great for oblong face shapes shaped faces as they narrow the width at the top of the face.

If you prefer a curved for angled fringe then curve them at the sides so they frame (but not hug) the eyes

Blunt cut fringes can shorten the length of longer shaped faces and you can soften the impact of a blunt cut fringe (bangs) by softening the tips with thinning scissors to give depth and texture.
The best lace wig textures for this are straight textures (yaki and kinky straight included) as well as the body wave texture.

Partings - Centre and Off-Centre
Off centre partings are better for oblong or rectangular faces as the can add the appearance of width making the face look shorter.

Centre partings with straight hair will mean that the hair will fall across the temples and frame your face which can elongate the look of oblong and rectangular faces. However centre partings with wavy, curly or layered hair will add the appearance of width to oblong and rectangular shaped faces.

The best lace wig textures for this are straight textures (yaki and kinky straight included) as well as wavy textures including body wave, water wave and deep wave.

Short Styles
Pixie cuts can make rectangular and oblong faces seem longer. If you're heart's set on a short cut, why not try adding width (layers, curls or waves) and tapering it to fall just below the ears.

Hairstyles that end at the chin work well on oblong and rectangular faces when width is added by curls, waves or layers.
Lace wig textures that are good for this, are straight textures (yaki and kinky straight included) wavy textures including body wave, water wave and deep wave and curly textures including kinky curls and afro curls.
